State Street at the Capitol Square: Make way for new Historical Society building

Knives out, shovels ready!
Five buildings -- make that 1 building with 5 storefronts --near the Capitol Square that have been found to have historic value should be demolished to aid the construction of the new Wisconsin History Center, the Madison Plan Commission decided on Monday. 
The dispute about whether to demolish the buildings in the 100 block of West Mifflin Street – which include the former Silver Dollar Tavern – saw disagreement between the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Mifflin Arcade has bn underutilized and falling into disrepair for decades.  ThNeoclassical/Beaux Arts building with terra cotta façade was constructed in 1922.
