Round 2 in the redevelopment of the 400 block of State Street in Madison Wisconsin

Photo and headlineWisconsin State Journal, 2/9/2024
In late June, after 18 months of effort, the city Plan Commission refused JD McCormick Properties’ bid to raze three two-story buildings at 428-430, 432-436 and 440-444 State St., two of which were built in the late 1800s, next to Lisa Link Peace Park.
They would be replaced by a six-story building with 25 housing units and 6,285 square feet of commercial space in the basement and on the first floor.
But the commission left open the possibility for McCormick to come back with the same proposal and provide more information. McCormick’s new request provides more supporting evidence in favor of demolition, including photographs and other information documenting the “ramshackle” interiors and other problems with the existing buildings.
