GET ME REWRITE: In fast-growing and diverse Fort Bend County, Texas, some grievance-fueled whites prefer to live in a MAGA mirage

Actually, a white majority no longer exists.  Take a look at the column graph below.  The percentage of white/non-Hispanic residents in Fort Bend County is 31.9%.

Sometimes it seems as though the New York Times to white racists airing their perceived grievances.  Aren't there much more instructive way to frame this story?

Fort Bend County:  From a 37.6 percentage point GOP advantage in 1984 to a 10.6 percentage point Democratic advantage in 2020.

Trump received 40,427 more votes than he did in 2016, a 38% increase.   Biden received 60,866 more votes than Clinton did in 2016, an increase of 45%.

Trump's share of the vote decreased by 0.7 percentage points. Biden increased Clinton's share of the vote by 3.3 percentage points.

The GOP dumbing down of America is not working in Fort Bend County.
