Population loss in rural Arkansas: Prairie County


Population loss as in major -- 50% or more.

Des Arc is the northern county seat of Prairie County.

Population loss by degrees:  80-89%70-79%, 60-69%, 50-59%.



Percentage of population 25 and older with a bachelor's degree:
  • 13.8% - Prairie County
  • 22.0% - Arkansas
  • 30.9% - U.S.
Percentage of population 65 and older:
  • 23.8% - Prairie County
  • 16.6% - Arkansas
  • 15.6% - U.S.

Since 1984, the majority of Prairie County voters have chosen the GOP candidate 7 of 9 times.  Third-party candidate George Wallace won 56% of the vote.  Prior that that,the county voted Republican just once -- in 1904.
