Keeping tabs on Foxconn Place in downtown Milwaukee

Here's the latest.

The rest of the story going back to 2018.

[emphasis added throughout]

Failed partnerships and vacant buildings:  Foxconn's Wisconsin committment remains at a standstill.  (Wisconsin Public Radio, 3/2/2021)
Jeff Fleming, spokesman for Milwaukee’s Department of City Development, said no one from his department has heard from the company in at least a year.
Foxconn's buildings in Wisconsin are still empty, one year later.  (The Verge, 4/13/2020)
“I can assure you it will not be empty and they’re not empty right now,” he added.
“They’re not empty right now” was a curious way to describe buildings that looked like this in April 2019:
Yeung made those comments on April 12th, 2019. It is now April 12th, 2020, making it exactly one year since Foxconn promised a statement or correction regarding The Verge’s report of empty buildings in Wisconsin. That statement or correction has never arrived.
And the buildings are still empty.
Ixonia Bank opens branch in Foxconn building in downtown Milwaukee.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 1/28/2020)
Westrope added one of the main reasons the bank wanted to open a branch in the downtown Milwaukee is because the Lubar family are principal shareholders in the bank and the family does some philanthropic work in the area.
Foxconn promised 'innovation centers,' but hasn't yet delivered.  (NPR, 1/13/2020)
Bauman said the entire project was designed to ensure the re-election of Walker, a Republican, in 2018. Walker lost that year to now-Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat.
"No question about it," Bauman said. "And to a lesser degree to play to a political storyline that (President Donald) Trump was trying to pedal."
15 months after buying the building, Foxconn starts first major non-tenant work on its Milwaukee headquarters.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 10/11/2019)
The company said at the time [June 2018] that it needed “a state-of-the-art facility.” And — using its preferred shorthand for artificial intelligence, ultra-sharp display panels and the emerging generation of high-speed data networks — the firm said it wanted design possibilities that would “showcase Foxconn’s continuing innovation in leading-edge technologies that AI 8K+5G will enable.”
The company said it expected to begin the work in September 2018.
Foxconn at two years: Factory being built, innovation centers unfilled, pledge to UW not yet met.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 7/26/2019)

Ixonia.  You've seen the name hundreds of times on exit signs if you've traveled I-94 between Madison and Milwaukee as much as I have.

Foxconn is confusing the hell out of Wisconsin. (Verge, 4/10/2019)
I walked into the front lobby, a small space undecorated except for a narrow strip of Foxconn-spangled wallpaper behind a receptionist desk in the corner. The receptionist politely declined my requests to speak with someone from Foxconn, directing me to a media email. When I told her I’d tried it already and received no response, she assured me Foxconn people do exist, but finding them would take some investigating. When I tried the email again, a publicist said that they were “aware” of my visit and directed me to a recent press release.
