Indianapolis Star Editorial: "Find resources for library".
Link to April 19 Indianapolis Star editorial.
Excerpt: If the city's Capital Improvement Board, sagging under a $47 million deficit only a year ago, can now seriously consider assuming the $15.4 million annual cost of operating Conseco Fieldhouse, then this city can find a way to save heavily used library branches.
Spending public money is all about setting priorities. Indianapolis has spent generously on football, basketball and other sports in recent decades. And, in fairness, returns on those investments continue to benefit the entire region.
But there's more to community life than playing ball. The more should include the educational and cultural treasures discovered in an easily accessible library.
Retiring Guy says Bravo! to this sentiment.
