Key Points 

• Hot summers are making European grape harvesting seasons shorter and earlier and making grapes more sugary — a conundrum for Champagne producers who want a long maturation period. 

• Winemakers generally expect lower yields this year following extreme weather conditions and drought, while they also face a challenging macro environment including fewer drinkers and U.S. tariffs. 

• One industry benefiting from warmer temperatures is U.K. wine production, as new grapes become viable in the country’s chalky soil.
