One of Madison’s largest low-income housing developments yet is on track to open about a year from now on land once used by the Oscar Mayer plant.
But the future of undeveloped land nearby, including about 15 acres that the city plans to turn into a park, is still a point of contention among neighbors of the East Side development.
The two apartment buildings now well into construction at 2007 Roth St. will have a combined 553 units. Those will include 303 one- through four-bedroom apartments at The View at Huxley Yards, which will be aimed at families, and 250 one- and two-bedroom apartments for seniors at The Victoria at Huxley Yards.
The units will have restricted rents for residents making no more than 50% to 70% of Dane County’s area median income. (In 2024, the area median income was about $88,000 for a single person and $126,000 for a family of four.
