Nicole Pollock reports:
Madison developer has proposed a striking four-story apartment building on South Park Street near its intersection with Fish Hatchery Road.
Early designs from Threshold Development Group and Threshold Builds show a gray-green structure with a mix of flat and barrel roofs at 999 S. Park St., where West Lakeside Street meets South Park Street at a diagonal. Brick at the building’s ground level gives way to a pair of curved sections with metal sides and roofs, both angled toward West Lakeside Street to create two triangular patios facing South Park Street.
The curved roofs “seemed like a softer way to form metal,” said Jake DeHaven, who leads design for Threshold Builds, at an Urban Design Commission meeting Wednesday. “Metal can be really harsh, but it's a great material. It's a rainscreen. It's affordable. It's durable.
