The first phase would deliver 164 units in a five-story building at the corner of Braxton Place and La Mariposa Lane that’s now a surface parking lot and staging area for the construction of an adjacent project by a nonprofit. Plans call for phase one construction to start later this year and conclude in 2026.
Then, the CDA would demolish the aging, 10-story Brittingham Apartments with 163 units built in 1975 and build two additional five-story buildings with another 180 units — both with exteriors facing West Washington Avenue, with completion set for 2028. Additional demolitions and phases would come later, with the full master plan realized perhaps by 2036. The phasing plan ensures that no residents will be displaced.
