GET ME REWRITE: Oklahoma GOP fights crime and inflation with introduction of vindictive abortion bill

From 19th News:
But that may be changing. A bill introduced Thursday in Oklahoma’s Senate would amend the state’s abortion restrictions, eliminating language that clarifies pregnant people are protected from prosecution. Under that bill, which has not yet been assigned to a legislative committee and has no co-sponsors yet, pregnant people could face felony charges if they induce an abortion. The bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Warren Hamilton, did not respond to a request for comment.
Here's a sample of the language from the bill (highlight added):

CES 2023: John Deere 145 X-Tier electric excavator

Fast Company, 1/13/2023
But cars and trucks aren’t the only vehicles in need of electrification. A corner of John Deere’s CES exhibit revealed another piece of that puzzle: its new 145 X-Tier electric excavator. This tracked vehicle can run about eight hours between charges and offers an immediate upgrade to the person operating it: much quieter operation.

What's the matter with Iowa? Well, you can start at the top of state government.

Headline Des Moines Register, 1/11/2023
Reynolds, a Republican, made the announcement during her annual Condition of the State address in the Capitol. She called out the criticism and “hysteria” she endured for her decision to reopen public schools during the height of the coronavirus pandemic — a move that ultimately endeared her to large swaths of Iowa Republicans — and likened it to the debate over her "school choice" agenda.

'Hysteria' best describes the red wave of Covid and anti-vaxxer denial and misinformation.

GET ME REWRITE: House GOP fights crime and inflation by gutting Office of Congressional Ethics

Top headline:  NBC, 10/16/2022
Bottom headline:  Mother Jones, 1/8/2023
Under McCarthy’s rules—which have not been passed yet, but will be up for a vote Monday morning and only require the support of the GOP—the OCE won’t be able to hire any new employees unless the majority of the office’s governing board approve. That rule would go into effect in 30 days and will generally make it more difficult to hire new staff if, for instance, there are any big new investigations to be undertaken.
Sweeping this scandal under the rug.

The late Herb Schmertz was a public-relations legend, a dedicated oil man who revolutionized the way his industry and other corporations manipulate American news, public opinion, and government policy. As a senior PR executive for Mobil, Schmertz pioneered what he called the op-ad. Beginning in October 1970, Mobil paid The New York Times to publish regular op-ed articles, written by the oil company, in which it delivered its views on energy, the environment, and other issues of the day. In a 1991 interview revealed here for the first time, Schmertz explained: “Everything we did was organized as if it was one big political campaign.” The goal of the campaign, Schmertz continued, “was to win elections also. On public-policy issues.”

CES 2023: Waste Shark by RanMarine

Waste Shark is an autonomous marine vehicle that is designed to navigate small waterways and clear plastics, bio-waste and other debris from the surface of the water. The robot is completely autonomous but takes its basic design from its larger manned sibling, the Tender Shark.
The primary use case for Waste Shark is to operate on contained bodies of either fresh or salt water. Parks, golf courses and amusement parks are just a few of the potential application areas for Waste Shark. The robot needs to return to the dock or shoreline when it’s time to remove the debris from its internal trap. It is a simple process to remove the trash basket as it slides out of the front of the vehicle for emptying.

With an animated face, there’s no uncanny valley to cross, and you are immediately enthralled (some might say enchanted) by the eyes, mouth and voice. This robot is built kinematically around a ball-bot, and there hasn’t been a commercially successful implementation of a ball-bot yet. With a moveable torso, head and arms, Mirokai is more complex than the original ball-bot designs.
