GOP gerrymandering spotlight on Wisconsin Assembly District 89

GOP gerrymandering attack from the north on Green Bay/Brown County.

The 89th Assembly District includes portions of 3 counties:  Marinette (red shading), Oconto (orange shading), and Brown (green shading).  The Brown County portion appears to tongue its way into the west side of Green Bay.

The egregious Elijah Behnke won a special election in April 2021 and quickly proceeded to make a fool of himself.

Isolating Green Bay with a specially made GOP gerrymander Exact-O knife, part 1.  We've already seen this strategy with Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Kenosha, Eau Claire, Wausau.  See a pattern?

John Macco (R-De Pere) has represented the district since January 2015.

Would like to know the GOP strategy that allowed this district in one of the faster-growing areas of the state to expand in size.

Whaddya know!  There's yet another side to the dismantling of the Wausau/Marathon County area community of interest.

Like precariously stacked blocks on a boot heel, the 87th Assembly District includes parts of Marathon County (purple shading) and Sawyer County (green shading) and all of Taylor County (red shading) and Rusk County (orange shading).

The go-along-to-get-along James Edming (R-Glen Flora) has represented the district since January 2015.

Apparently, the cobbler was drunk when he attached the heel.

The majority of the gerrymandered 86th Assembly District is within a selective portion of Marathon County (outer orange box0, with a Wood County add-on that dismantles the Marshfield area community of interest (purple box).  (See "State-based requirements".)

The ineffable John Spiros (R-Marshfield) has represented the district since January 2013.

Once again, Wisconsin GOP gerrymanderers dismantle the Wausau area community of interest.

Wouldn't this design make a lot more sense?  You can configure two Assembly districts out of this cluster of cities, villages, and towns.

Yak-a-doodle Patrick Snyder (R-Schofield) has represented the district since January 2017.  .

The 84th Assembly District, located wholly within Milwaukee County, is probably the only one designed with a dewlap (orange box).  Perhaps the GOP gerrymanderers referred it to the Assembly Committee on Agriculture for its approval.

And what's up with the small square of land not being included in the district?  (Red box)

Mike Kuglitsch (R-New Berlin) had represented the district since January 2011.  He resigned on May 19, 2022, after it became clear that he had been drawn out of the district.

The 83rd Assembly District includes portions of Waukesha (orange box), Walworth (red box) and Racine (purple box).   In the process, it isolate the Racine County village of Waterford from all but its western neighbors.  And as was mentioned in yesterday's post, Waukesha County (2020 census population 402, 637) needs no help filling its own Assembly District.

Mike Kuglitsch (R-New Berlin) has represented the district since January 2020.  He is not running for re-election of the district by the GOP gerrymanderers..

Dear Wisconsin GOP gerrymanderers,
Milwaukee and Waukesha counties are big enough to take care of themselves.  With a 2020 population of  949,180, Milwaukee County (orange boxes) has enough residents to fill 16 Assembly districts with an average population of 59,324.  With a 2020 population of 402,637, Waukesha County (red boxes) has enough residents to fill 6 Assembly district with an average population of 59,324 -- plus most of a 7th..
Best, Retiring Guy
P.S.  Can you explain to us the isolation of the areas within the small boxes?

Ken Skowronski (R-Franklin) has represented the district since January 2014.

Another GOP gerrymandering round of diluting Dane County.

And it bears repeating.  With a population of nearly 580,000, there is absolutely no reason to gerrymander Dane County (green box) with any of its neighbor counties.  The 81st Assembly District include portions of 3 other counties:  Iowa (orange box), Sauk (red highlight), and Columbia (purple highlights).

Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) has represented the district since January 2015.

Again, so much wrong here.

With a population of nearly 580,000, there is absolutely no reason to gerrymander Iowa County (orange box) -- or any other border county for that matter -- into a Dane County district.

How did the GOP gerrymanderers justify excluding the Village and Town of Blue Mounds?  (green box)

Why are the Village and Town of Cross Plains in different districts?

Why was a portion of the City of Middleton (red square) not included in the 79th Assembly district?

When you consider communities of interest, the City and Town of Middleton (red rectangle) should be in the same district.

Sondy Pope (D-Mount Horeb) has represented the 80th district since January 2003.
