The Art of the Wisconsin Gerrymander: What's up the GOP sleeve during this round of redistricting? (Dane County/Madison edition)

Well, at least the GOP decided to create a distsrict wholly within Dane County

But why all the squiggly lines?

Next year's dissolution of the splintered Town of Madison should help to clean up this mess.

Ballotpedia provides a clearer look.

2010 Dane County population:  488,073.

Population representated by each state senator:  172,333.

There is no defensible reason why 4 other counties -- Green, Iowa, Sauk, Columbia -- are included in this district.

Ballotpedia outlines the Stackables

Unless you use GOP logic.

Like extracting the Town of Dane from Dane County (see red box and arrow)......

...and assigning it to a State Senate district that include Clintonville, 140 miles away.  Indefensible!

Or assigning 2 additional townships, and a portion of a third to then Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald's district, slicing and dicing DeForest and Windsor in the process.

Or moving 2 southeastern Dane County townships and a portion of a third into the 15th State Senate district.
