Leslie as a baby name for girls floundered around in the bottom half of the top 1000 during the first 30 years of the 1900s.  Then it gained traction during the 1930s and received a crossover boost from this wildly popular Hollywood spectacle, climbing into the top 100, where it spent 41 years (1953-53, 1957-88, 1999-2004), peaking at # 56 in 1981.  Leslie has been in a severe decline since 2005.
