Population loss in rural Iowa: Van Buren County

Locally, Van Buren County saw the steepest decline as a percentage of population, while Lee County had the largest numerical loss. 
As of July 1, 2018, Van Buren County had shrunk by 7.3 percent since 2010, losing 551 people. The county was estimated to be home to 7,020 people. Lee County, meanwhile, had lost 5 percent of its residents since 2010, a reduction of 1,798 people to 34,223 residents.
