Frieda, the preferred spelling until the mid-1940s, peaked at #154 in 1901 and then spent the next 57 years in an increasingly sharp and bumpy decline.

Showing a bit more consistency, Freida remained in the 450 to 600 range for much of the 1st half of the 20th century, peaking twice at #468, in 1919 and 1922.  She managed to survive one year longer than Frieda.

I associate the name with the elderly church ladies of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the 1950s and 1960s.
