The popularity of Barbara as a baby name is graphed here.  Let's take a look at Holly, the name of one of Barbara's grandchildren.

Holly debuted in 1936 and made some headway during the 1940s, but she didn't make much of a mark until the late 1960s.  She spent 23 years (1969-1990, 1992) in the top 100, peaking at #48 in 1979 and 1983.  Audrey Hepburn's character in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). Holly Golightly, gave the name a bit of a boost, as did Neil Diamond's "Holly Holy", which spent 3 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1969/early 1970.
