Matt Moore must live under a rock. Matt Moore, the South Carolina Republican Party chairman, said one of the factors that tripped up Walker in the presidential election was that he got a late start.
Walker didn't make his official announcement until July 13, 2015, but he spent most of his time during the first 6 1/2 months making multiple visits to the early primary states -- Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina -- and traveling to Washington D.C., Florida, Nevada, California, and elsewhere to hit up fatcats for donations. He most certainly did not get a late start.
