There are 4 horse's asses in this photo

The title of this post is meant to be taken literally.

Photo taken at Keeneland race track, Lexington, Kentucky.

At the end of the Woodford Reserve tour

Woodford Reserve is one of the stops along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  My wife toured the distillery 6 years ago with two high school friends.  She purchased me a bottle of straight bourbon whiskey for my 60th birthday, a dubious move considering my longstanding indifference to so-called brown liquor.   Perhaps she thought I'd appreciate the smartly designed wooden gift box

But my first taste taught that Woodford Reserve is in a league of its own.  I continue to enjoy it when I feel my taste buds deserve a special occasion.

And although I'm a Retiring Guy, every day is not a holiday in my world.

(The above photo was taken at the end of our 1-hour tour of Woodford in Friday.  Samples included the (a) Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and (b) Double Oaked Bourbon.)

Kentucky: Where macaroni 'n' cheese tops the list of veggies

A portion of the menu from Ramsey's Diner -- a Lexington KY chain (4 locations) -- where I savored a top-notch reuben.

Expertly toasted, with no soggy underside of bread.

Just the right application of thousand island.

Perfectly melted cheese. I gave it a 9.2 out of 10.

My veggie choice?  French fries.

Cheeseheads Invade Kentucky!

You'd think that after Wisconsin ruined Kentucky's perfect basketball season, it would be open season on anyone wearing a cheesehead in the Bluegrass State, even if they're offering up samples of beer cheese at a street festival.

38-1.

Chase those pink elephants away!

My wife and I spent a portion of the afternoon at the 7th Annual Winchester Beer Cheese Festival.  Winchester is located 20 miles east of Lexington, Kentucky, where we are visiting friends, 'Trivers' Wisconsin transplants.

The above headline caught my attention while we toured the Bluegrass Heritage Museum.  It's from the front page of the August 23, 1943, edition of the Winchester Sun.

Pawn Walker Visits the Tennessee Assembly Chamber

Pawn Walker feels very much at home here.  Out of the 99 members of the General Assembly House of Representatives, 73 are Republicans.

The General Assembly Senate includes 28 Republixans and 5 Democrats.

Yes indeed, Tennessee is a very red state.

Dinnertime in Nashville

The Southern fried chicken was excellent.  The mashed potatoes, pretty good.  The green beans, merely decorative. The cold pancake:  WTF?!?!?

Am I seeing double?

Greetings from Nashville.

The hash browns -- smothered, covered, chunked, and diced -- are excellent.

Almost as high as you can be east of the Mississippi

North Carolina's Mount Mitchell is the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains.   The parking lot elevation shown here is 105 feet* lower from where the observation deck is located.  Unfortunately, by the time my wife and I walked to this point, rain started to fall and clouds obscured the view.

This was my third visit to Mount Mitchell. The first two took place on camping trips during the early 1980s.

(*or so, depending upon what source you consult.)

Something for everyone in Gatlinburg

This attraction is off the beaten path.

And it begs the question -- yes, I've been in need of answers of late -- what would Jesus grow?

Pawn Walker, still in Gatlinburg, orders a beer

I prefer the Pale Ale myself.

Which begs the question:  Who is the Scott Walker of Tennessee?
