Excerpt: All told, the storm destroyed more than 100,000 items including books and DVDs in four of the five Queens library branches in the Rockaways, which had a combined total of more than 600,000 visitors last year. The Peninsula branch lost about 40,000 books and other materials, as well as its laptops and other electronic equipment.
