"Curious George Saves the Day" at San Francisco's Contemporary Jewish Museum

Link to December 9 San Francisco Chronicle article.

Excerpt: "Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margret and H.A. Rey" includes dozens of the very first Curious George drawings, as well as a history of the Reys, both of whom fled Paris before the Nazis marched on the city in 1940.

Other items for inspection include preparatory dummy books, vintage photographs, and documentation related to the Reys' escape from Nazi Europe (such as H.A. Rey's journals detailing the couple's perilous journey to freedom). According to Connie Wolf, the museum's director, the documents make clear that Curious George might not have seen the light of day if not for the determination of his creators.

"These documents paint a colorful and powerful picture of courage," Wolf says. "Most people don't know the story behind Curious George. It's a fascinating story, to say the least.
