Portage County Resident Enriches Library's Local History Collection

Continued....

Link to May 3 Stevens Point Journal column by Vicky Billings, Technical Services Librarian for the Portage County (Wisconsin) Public Library.

Excerpt:   [Dianne] Peplinski has put together 17 works, stories gathered from area newspapers on various aspects of Portage County history. Area newspapers include: the Stevens Point Daily Journal, the Stevens Point Journal, the Gazette, the Wisconsin Pinery and the Wisconsin Lumberman. Peplinski finds the history of the county fascinating and hopes that by sharing these works, more people will appreciate and enjoy the county they call home.

The 17 titles range from "Animal Tales" to "Fatal Accidents Portage County, 1880-1920" to "Glinski School, 1910-2005" to "Major Fires, 1853-1923" and Portage County's only lynching. Incidentally, Glinski School was named after Peplinski's great-grandfather.

Some of these titles are shelved in the Library's Genealogy Room, some are in the circulating non-fiction section and a few are temporarily at the Branch Libraries. You can find a complete listing of all 17 titles in the Library's Online Catalog
