Wisconsin clerks are required under state law to report to the state elections commission any time they refer a case of suspected fraud or other voting irregularity to a district attorney. The commission then compiles an annual report for the state Legislature. The bipartisan agency is slated to approve the report at its Tuesday meeting.
Wisconsin elections are decentralized, meaning they are administered by the state’s more than 1,800 local clerks. Such a process makes it nearly impossible to conduct large-scale voter fraud in the battleground state. But even with protections in place, some fraud does occur in nearly every election.
