But there are no leases and this isn’t another new Downtown apartment building. Instead, it’s the Saddlery, a 46-unit hotel in the former Rubin’s furniture store at 327 E. Wilson St. that opened Wednesday and caters to those looking to stay one or two nights, or even longer.
The Saddlery The brick building that is now home to most of The Saddlery hotel was constructed in 1907 for the Madison Saddlery Company, which closed in 1929. The building has since been occupied by grocers, wholesale hardware and most recently Rubin's furniture.
The project is the latest from Middleton-based NCG Hospitality, which last month opened The Moxy, a Marriott-branded boutique hotel on East Washington Avenue. The Saddlery is also boutique, but, in a first for NCG, it’s the company’s own brand and concept.
