The law has new testing requirements intended to help aspiring Iowa teachers improve their literacy instruction and requires schools to provide personalized plans to elementary school students who are not reading at grade level.  [emphasis added]

According to the National Education Association, the average salary for starting teachers in Iowa is $39,208, which ranks 35th among the 50 states.

Reynolds recently signed a bill that includes increasing the starting salary for teachers to $50,000.
