At a Dec. 5, 2023 Assembly Committee on Education public hearing, co-authors state Sen. Andre Jacque, R-De Pere, and state Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha, explained the bill would allow educators to be prosecuted for giving obscene materials to minors. Allen said the intent is to "hold educators to the same level as other Wisconsinites."

According to a 2/10/2023 Journal Sentinel report:

....state Sen. Andre Jacque, a Republican from De Pere, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that making a run for the seat is "certainly something I’ll take a hard look at.”
