Westgate Mall memories: Where Madison west side seniors used to hang out

Among the list of nominees, Retiring Guy knows of just one that remains open:  Original Pancake House, which is now located at 5518 University Avenue.

Saying fixed costs are too high, Joe Meyer said he and wife Bonnie will close their CJ's Restaurant in Westgate Mall on Feb. 11.   
The restaurant has been in Westgate for more than 13 years. Meyer said he will reopen in the Atrium Fashion Mall, 5618 Odana Road, in early March after extensive remodeling at that site, although he hasn't yet signed a lease.

The Wisconsin supper club traditions of fish on Friday night, prime rib on Saturday, and an Old-Fashioned cocktail at the bar before dinner seem as timeless as a Tony Bennett melody. 
But the staying power of Madison's last CJ's Restaurant crumbled like a fragile schaum torte when Madison's smoking ban went into effect last year.
