DOOR COUNTY, Wis. — She didn’t trust the government. She didn’t trust the news. She didn’t know whom to trust, so Kathy Nichols eased into the armchair facing her psychic. “What comes up in my future?” she asked.
Yes, folks are frustrated with the current state of U.S. politics, but Door County residents continue to vote, especially Democrats.
The total number of votes in the 2020 presidential election, including 3rd-party candidates, was 20,117, a 12.5% increase in the 2016 tally. Joe Biden flipped the county, receiving 292 more votes than Donald Trump.
In Door County, the total number of votes in the 2018 gubernatorial election, including 3rd-party candidates, was 16,978. Two-tern GOP incumbent Scott received 386 more votes than Democratic challenger Tony Evers, who won the election.
The total number of votes in the 2022 gubernatorial election, including 3rd-party candidates, was 17,305, a 2% increase in the 2018 tally. On his way to winning a second term, Tony Evers flipped the county, receiving 839 more votes than GOP challenge Tim Michels.
The total number of votes in the 2023 Supreme Court election, including write-in votes, was 12,433. Liberal candidate Janet Protasiewicz defeated conservative Daniel Kelly by 1,661 votes -- a margin of 13.4 percentage points. Protasiewicz won the state by an 11 percentage point margin.
Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin take place in April.

I have a suggestion.
Rather than focus on the negative, rather than listen to old folks at the local diner until your eyes glaze over, flip the script and feature the grassroots, boots-on-the-ground volunteers who are already talking with the friends and neighbors about the 2024 election.
