GET ME REWRITE: What a king-size payday for Jacob deGrom

The Athletic, 11/27/2023
The Rangers signed deGrom last offseason knowing they were gambling on his health. Turns out their $185 million bet lost in quick fashion. deGrom made only six starts for the Rangers last season before going on the injured list and undergoing his second Tommy John surgery. He isn’t expected to return to the majors until at least August of 2024. The Rangers will have paid deGrom $70 million for a handful of starts.

The Rangers signed deGrom to a 5-year contract, which means he earned $35 million this seasonHe pitched a total of  30+ innings and won 2 games.

Maybe not so much now.  More of a relief, eh?
