BREAKING NEWS: 2016 Wisconsin Library Association champion Steve Nass is now a Wisconsin library antagonist

HeadlineWisconsin State Journal, 11/29/2023
Wisconsin law already allows parents to request what materials their children under 16 are checking out, but the law doesn’t require librarians to disclose that information unless it’s requested.
“Parents in Wisconsin already have the ability to see what their child is checking out from the library — but this proposed legislation would discourage kids from exploring all the perspectives and stories that a library has to offer,” Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard, D-Madison, said in a statement.
Sen. LaTonya Johnson, D-Milwaukee, questioned why the bill would apply to every book instead of only controversial ones. In response, Quinn said one book could be OK for one parent but problematic to the next, adding that requiring notifications for every book is better than debating which books should and shouldn’t be considered controversial.

You'll see these names listed as sponsors of many crackpot GOP legislative proposals.  (It would be interesting to learn how many librarians received a courtesy call from these legislators asking for feedback.)
