Presidential elections are just one part of the equation.

Since 1992, Republicans in Wisconsin have held the Governor's office in 19 of 32 years -- 60% of the time.

Since 1992, Republicans in Wisconsin have held the majority in the State Senate in 21 of 32 years -- 66% of the time.

Since 1992, Republicans in Wisconsin have held the majority in the State Assembly in 27 of 32 years -- 84% of the time.

More mauve than deep blue.

Wisconsin was once considered a deep blue state; 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Mike Dukakis lost a lot of states, but he won Wisconsin. Republicans, however, gained much ground in that state during the Barack Obama years, which found Walker winning in 2010 and 2014 and far-right Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) winning in 2010 and 2016.

Let's take a short trip in the Presidential Wayback Machine.

Richard Nixon won Wisconsin three times, by 3.7 percentage points, 1970, +3.6 in 1968, and +9.7 in 1972.

Ronald Reagan won Wisconsin twice, by 3.7 percentage points in 1980 and +9.1 in 1984.

George W. Bush lost Wisconsin by razor thin margins:  -0.22 percentage points in 2000 and -0.38 in 2004.

This is the 2nd time that Retiring Guy is aware of when Alex has made this bonehead observation.
