Clematis plants thriving like never before thanks to neighbors' advice

Last year our (best ever) neighbors suggested we not cut back our climatis. 

 

As a result, the one along the south side of our house (above), always a great performer, has transformed itself into a bush and looks as though it wants to push the peonies out of the way. 

As for the photo below, it’s the first time ever the two plants have met at the top of the arbor. And we planted them at least 10 years ago.
