Marjorie Taylor Greene is now the face of the GOP. And what a clown show it is.

Headline:  New York Times, 10/17/2022
Though the 48-year-old self-described “Christian nationalist” possesses a flair for extreme bombast equal to that of her political role model Trump, Greene’s assessment of her current standing within the Republican Party — owing to the devotion accorded her by the party’s MAGA base — would seem to be entirely accurate.
Over the past two years, Greene has gone from the far-right fringe of the G.O.P. ever closer to its establishment center without changing any of her own beliefs; if anything, she has continued to find more extreme ways to express them. When she entered electoral politics in 2019, she had spent much of her adult life as a co-owner, with her husband, of her family’s construction company. (Her husband, Perry Greene, recently filed for divorce.)  [All you need to know about the current direction of the Republican Party.]
She's gonna have a short shelf life.

Washington Post, 10/17/2022
“There’s just a lament for what’s happened to the party and a real sense of disgust at election denialism, the lies, and the extent to which these candidates ape Trump,” Longwell said. “As the party has changed, there’s a group of Republicans who feel alienated despite being Republican voters their whole lives.”
This group may be relatively small: Surveys show Trump continues to command overwhelming support among Republican voters. But in closely contested elections, even a small number of Republicans who cross over, split tickets or stay home could be decisive.
“It’s very tightly targeted,” said Craig Snyder, a former aide to former Pennsylvania senator Arlen Specter who’s running a PAC trying to dissuade Republicans from supporting the state’s GOP gubernatorial nominee, Doug Mastriano. “We don’t need to talk to the whole commonwealth. We don’t even need all Republicans.”

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is falsely telling the more than 400,000 people following her verified Facebook campaign account that “all the people” at the January 6 insurrection “were unarmed.” \
That’s provably false.
[snip]
“At least 85 people are charged with carrying or using a weapon during the Capitol riots,” Buzzfeed News reported last month, citing its analysis of court records, detailing them as: “Guns, knives, bats, chemicals, stolen police gear, flagpoles, a ‘Trump 2020’ sign, pieces of metal and wood, crutches, a skateboard, stun devices, a crow bar, and a firecracker.”

The online fight between Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) and Nancy Mace (S.C.), both not quite through their first year in office, was personal and pointed. And it illustrated the explosive Republican intraparty tensions that will shape both the 2022 midterm elections and how the House will function (or not function) if the GOP retakes the majority.
It also highlights Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s unwillingness to publicly rein in — and, indeed, his inclination to embrace — some of the more outrageous members of his caucus as he chases control of the chamber and the speaker’s gavel.

The hundreds of Americans who have been arrested and charged for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol have been lionized as freedom fighters by some on the right, including members of Congress.

Actually, the 'members of Congress' link in the FiveThirtyEight post sends you here.

Yup, these two yahoos, not exactly known as paragons of political restraint and acumen.

New York Times, 5/25/2021
The Republicans’ reaction was a contrast to their swift ouster this month of Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, whom they forced from her leadership post after she enraged her colleagues by vocally repudiating Mr. Trump’s election lies.
Instead, Mr. McCarthy issued a sternly worded statement that rebuked Ms. Greene but also referred to “anti-Semitism on the rise in the Democrat Party” and made no mention of further consequences. [emphasis added]
His statement was quickly followed by condemnations by the other two top House leaders and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader, who denounced Ms. Greene’s statements as “outrageous” and “reprehensible.”

All of them too much of a scaredy-cat to read them publicly.

“I am so lucky to serve with this guy right here, and we are the most hated and most talked about and most attacked members of Congress,” she said to the crowd.
That would be pervy Matt.

The GOP's Old Faithful-like
geyser of hate, misinformation, and bigotry

Doubles down on her LGBTQ bigotry

USA Today, 2/25/2021
Newman talked about the importance of the Equality Act for transgender individuals such as her daughter. Greene then posted a tweet denying her daughter's gender identity. “Your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams,” Greene said

MTG froths at the mouth over LGBTQ equality in Twitter rant.

AlterNet, 2/22/2021
"I WILL BE VOTING NO TO THE DISGUSTING, IMMORAL, AND EVIL #EqualityAct!! It has nothing to do with stopping discrimination against the LGBT community, that could be done easily without this. It has everything to do with attacking God & believers. It virtually destroys women's rights and religious freedom.
"The so called #EqualityAct is evil. Disguised as #LGBT rights, it expands governmental regulatory reach that destroys women's rights, religious rights, and rights of the unborn. It is a direct attack on God's creation. He created us male and female."

“Going forward, I’ve been freed,” she said. “I have a lot of free time on my hands, which means I can talk to a whole lot more people all over this country and . . . make connections and build a huge amount of support that I’ve already got started with.”

Good luck with that MTG.  You are one of the most unpopular Republicans in the nation.

The well-deserved thanks GOP leaders get for their silence.    She also issued what amounted to a threat to top Republicans who might be contemplating punishing her, warning that they would pay steep consequences.
“If Republicans cower to the mob, and let the Democrats and the fake news media take me out,” Ms. Greene said, “they’re opening the door to come after every single Republican until there’s none left.”  [emphasis added}

The newly-circulated video comes as Facebook posts from Ms Greene emerged that appeared to show her endorsing the execution of Democrats. In response to an April 2018 post asking “now do we get to hang them ??” Ms Greene replied: “Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”
