Republcians actions on unemployment insurance after Scott Walker was first elected governor

  • 2011 - required 1-week waiting period before applying for benefits (now suspended until February)
  • 2012 - Many claimants denied benefits unless they actively search for work
  • 2012- Denied benefits for working more than 32 hours in a week or receiving $500 in sick pay, holiday pay, vacation pay, or termination pay
  • 2013 - Expanded work search requirement and ezpanded situations when benefits are automatically cut off for 'misconduct'
  • 2013 - Increased length of time people are ineligible after they declined a job offer
  • 2013 - Prevented people from receiving unemployment benefits if they receive disability benefits
  • 2015 - Required drug test for those receiving benefits (not implemented)
  • 2015 - Increased number of situation for which a person is denied benefits for refusing a job offer
  • 2018 - Passed a series of lame-duck law limited the governor's power in numerous way

Outgoing State Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) sums it up:

Republicans deliberately built in obstacles that made it more difficult for people to qualify for unemployment benefits and to deny as many people as possible the benefits they’ve earned.

But wait, there's more!  (In store)

Heartless!
