Ava bounced around, losing steam along the way, during most of the first half of the 20th century.  A star-making performance by this actress in "The Killers" turned things around in 1946, although the bounce was short-lived.  After dropping out of view for most of the 1970s and 80s, Ava rocketed into the top 10, where she has spent the past 15 years, most recently 4 consecutive years at #3.
