At first, it looked as though Gary was going to rocket his way to popularity in the opening years of the 20th century.  But he ended up bouncing around until the mid-1920s, his rise as a popular baby name corresponding to the rise of this actor's career.  Gary eventually spent 56 years in the top 100 (1933-1988), peaking at #9 in 1954, his last of 5 years in the top 10.  So far, the 21st century has been a period of serious decline.
