Answer: A one-and-done congressman from Texas



First of all, he won an 18-person primary with 27.1% of the vote.  Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

GOP gerrymandered, by the way.

Secondly, he didn't exactly kick butt in the GOP primary runoff.


And, finally, he's clearly no Lamar Smith.  He won by less than 3 percentage points.

In 2014, a Green Party candidate received 14.7% of the vote, a Libertarian 13.5%.  No Democrat challenged Smith.
