Wisconsin Policy Forum publishes report on Wisconsin room tax

Hotel room tax collection has more than doubled in Wisconsin -- providing cash to attract more travelers.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 5/21/2019)
Taxes paid by people staying at hotels throughout Wisconsin are rising — and that means more money to help draw vacationers, convention-goers and other travelers.
Statewide room tax collections have more than doubled since 1999, growing faster than inflation, or state and local taxes collectively in Wisconsin, according to a new report sponsored by tourism industry groups.
The report, “Checking In: A Look at Wisconsin Room Tax Trends,” cites state Department of Revenue data showing the tax on hotel room charges and other short-term lodging generated $111.9 million in 2017.
