50 Years Ago This Week: Beatlemania Crosses the Atlantic

"I Want to Hold Your Hand" debuts at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending January 18, 1964.  Two weeks later, it reaches #1, where it remains for a total of 7 weeks.

In early April, the Beatles accomplish a previously unequaled feat that no one has since been able to match. Five of their singles chart simultaneously on the top 10 -- the top 5, actually.
  1. "Can't Buy Me Love"
  2. "Twist and Shout"
  3. "She Loves You"
  4. "I Want to Hold Your Hand"
  5. "Please Please Me"
In fact, the Beatles occupied 12 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending April 4, 1964.
