6-Term Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi) Faces the Toughest Challenge of his Career -- from Within His Own Party

Chris McDaniel stands with the Tea Party.

Challenged by Tea Party, Veteran Mississippi Senator Seeks 7th Term. (The New York Times, 12/7/2013)

The battle lines are set.  While Mr. Cochran, who turns 76 on Saturday, has the support of many leading Republicans in the state, he is already facing opposition from Chris McDaniel, 41, a state senator aligned with the Tea Party, who announced his candidacy in October and has won the support of some conservative groups.

An excerpt from McDaniel's campaign biography (bold red letters added).    Chris is a strong proponent of limited government, free enterprise, civic participation, reduced tax rates, a strong national defense, states rights and a return to the original checks of balances of the Constitution.

Chris, unless you're speaking in code, it's called the original system of checks and balances.

States' rights -- with an apostrophe, Chris -- was a term used a code word by defenders of segregation.  Wonder how deep we have to scratch the surface of folks who use this term nowadays to learn if this is still so?
