Board Finds Unacceptable Situation at the Graysville Public Library


Graysville to close public library for up to two weeks for cleaning, assessment. (al.com, 3/8/2013)

On the board's checklist of items that need attention

  • Cleaning the building
    • "filthy and cluttered" is their assessment of its current condition
    • insect problem (not specified)
  • Reconciling library's bank statements
    • Photocopier income
    • Overdue fines
    • "There's no financial accountability," sez library board chairman, and Graysville mayor, Mary Sue Morgan.
The board appointed an acting director, but this employee, who has served in this position since October 1, 2012, has recently been placed on a 1-week administrative leave.


Graysville is located in Jefferson County, about 10 miles northwest of Birmingham.
