League of Wisconsin Municipalities Wants State Shared Revenue Cuts Restored

Wisconsin Eye.  Link to video of 9/25/2012 press conference.

Comment:  In spite of its headline, the news release takes somewhat of a fork-in-the-road approach to the restoration of shared revenue.

On the one hand, the League agrees with the Governor's focus on creating jobs and investing in infrastructure in the 2013-15 biennial budget.  But then in the next paragraph, there's the echo of what's trumpeted in the headline, taxpayer relief, clearly tied to its top legislative priority, i.e., restoring the $48 million cut in shared revenue.

Six of one, a half dozen of the other?

About The League   The League of Wisconsin Municipalities is a voluntary nonprofit and nonpartisan association of cities and villages that acts as an information clearinghouse, lobbying organization and legal resource for Wisconsin municipalities.

Members include all 190 of Wisconsin's cities and 393 of its 406 villages.  I'd ventured to say that few "libraried" communities are not represented.

Comment:  What is not mentioned in the news release is libraries.  I know what I would be saying to my local elected officials during the development of the 2013 budget and on other occasions during the coming months.
