Euclid Public Library (and City Hall) Go Solar
Euclid City Hall and Library go Green with a state-of-the-art solar panel project. (Cleveland Plain Dealer, 10/23/2011)
Excerpt: Euclid City Hall and Euclid Public Library have partnered to install photovoltaic(PV) solar panels on the buildings’ rooftops in one of the largest joint public projects in the State of Ohio. The solar panels will help meet the electrical needs of City Hall and the Library.
The City and the Library have worked with Ohio Cooperative Solar, an employee-owned energy cooperative supported by the Cleveland Foundation, and have leased the building rooftops to OCS for the installation of the solar systems. The city will then purchase electricity from OCS.
“We are proud to partner with OCS in a cooperative effort to produce clean renewable solar energy and to create jobs in the Cleveland area,” stated Euclid Mayor Bill Cervenik. “With utility costs anticipated to continue to increase each year, over the life of the contract the energy produced by the solar systems will cost less than that provided by the utility company. This will result in annual savings to both the Library and the City.”
