Registration is Full for San Francisco Public Library's Literary Speed Dating Events
Speed dating goes literary. (San Francisco Chronicle, 1/27/2011)
Excerpt: For the lucky 36 who get enrolled per evening, step two is bringing a favorite, most loathed or just plain want-to-talk-about-it book for the ice-breaker.
And in classic speed dating fashion, participants will have four to five minutes to talk before rotating to another author or genre.
Both two-hour speed dating events, one on Feb. 1 for straight book lovers and another the following day for LGBT book lovers, are meant to change peoples' impression of the library, said librarian Donya Drummond.
"There's a stereotype of the library that it's stifled, academic, that you go there to be quiet and study," she said. "In fact, we have a lot of programs here that are a lot of fun."
