And on the Federal Front, Corporation for Public Broadcasting Under Attack

Should the federal government continue to fund NPR and PBS? (NPR, 2/15/2011)

Excerpt:   The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, parent organization to PBS and NPR, receives about $430 million in federal funds each year.

While President Obama wants to increase funding by $6 million in 2014, House Republicans' budget plan calls for an end to federal funding for public radio and television.

NPR chief executive and president Vivian Schiller says cutting off funding would threaten the 900 public radio stations around the country.

"It would diminish stations' ability to bring high-quality local, national and international news to their communities, as well as local arts, music and cultural programming that other media don't present," Schiller said in a statement on Monday
