Brown County Public Library Wins Its Wager with CPL

Brown County Library hands over books as part of Packers-Bears wager. (Green Bay Press-Gazette, 1/30/2011.  Note to headline writer:  The library is accepting the books.)

Excerpt: The Brown County Library is making room for 14 new books on its shelves, compliments of the Chicago Bears.

The downtown Green Bay library and its counterpart in Chicago made a friendly wager before last week's NFC championship game between the Green Bay Packers and Bears. Each put up a list of titles that had special significance to — or poked good-natured fun at — the cities involved.

Brown County Library director Lynn Stainbrook offered up children's picture books "We're Going on a Bear Hunt'' and "Old Bear,'' the story of a slumbering old bear who dreams about his youth. The staff at the Chicago Public Library included children's book "The Stinky Cheese Man'' and "The Universe in Miniature in Miniature'' by Patrick Somerville, a Green Bay native now living in Chicago.

Stainbrook initiated the bet and said the library staff and visitors had fun coming up with titles to put on the line. Had the Packers lost, she would have paid for the books and not used tax dollars, she said
