Michigan's Highland Park Library Revival
Link to December 7 Detroit News article, "Granholm announces $342K grants for library".
Excerpt: Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced two grants totaling $342,000 on Monday to help restore Highland Park's McGregor Public Library.
The $110,000 Cities of Promise and $232,000 Clean Energy Coalition grants were announced at Highland Park City Hall by Granholm, who was accompanied by Mayor Hubert Yopp and other local officials.
McGregor Library, designed and built in 1926, was a centerpiece for the community until the city suffered job and population losses because of hard times in the auto industry. The library closed in 2002 and is undergoing a $9.3 million restoration.
Abandoned History: Highland Park.
Then there's Highland Park's neighbor.
