Marathon County Wants to Know What the Survey Says
Link to October 3 Wausau Daily Herald article, "Where are YOUR priorities: Make your own rankings for county services".
Excerpt: Facing deep budget cuts this year, members of the Marathon County Board have ranked a number of the county's programs by priority.
County Board members were quick to say that their rankings won't simply translate directly into budget decisions. But board members and county officials all acknowledge that some cuts are inevitable.
"It's pretty tight," Finance Director Kristi Kordus said of the budget in August. "But this list has spelled out for us what the board and the citizens they represent expect."
Among the programs they listed as high priority: road maintenance, corrections, OWI prosecutions. Medium: library technology, Sheriff's Department communications and The Women's Community. Among the low-priority items: Start Right parent education and sexually transmitted disease prevention.
Dear Marathon County Board of Supervisors,
Some aspects of 'traditional library services' are provided more efficiently through 'library technology'.
Sincerely yours,
Retiring Guy
