Wisconsin State Legislature: 20 Announced Retirements (and Counting)

Listen to the public and opponents blame you for everything from the recession to global warming. Craft proposals that go nowhere. Scrimp and scrounge to raise tens of thousands of dollars to keep your job every few years.

So far this year, 20 legislators have filed notice they won't seek re-election in November, nearly twice as many dropouts as in each of the last two elections, according to state election records. Some are vying for higher office. Others say they're done with smash-mouth politics and campaigns
.

And, on a related note, it's probably time to change the metaphor from horse-racing to boxing.   Or WWF.
