Update on Oshkosh Public Library's RFID Tagging Project

Link to May 30 Oshkosh Northwestern article, "Library book tagging project making slow progress".

Excerpt: Library director Jeff Gilderson-Duwe told members of the Oshkosh Public Library Board of Trustees last week that 90,000 items of the library's 300,000 item collection have been fitted with RFID tags. When the library began the tagging project, administrators estimated 112,000 items would be tagged in the first year.

"The tagging project is moving more slowly than we expected," Gilderson-Duwe said.

The library began tagging materials with the RFID tags in August 2009 after the Oshkosh Northwestern reported in June that the library had been operating without a working security system because an automated checkout system installed earlier that year was incompatible with the old security system
